I don't know if the process of mummification destroys DNA (don't see why it should). In the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the Canopic jars of King Khufu's mother (Hetepheres) are on display. Inside the jars are the remains of her internal organs (they looked fairly intact). The Great Pyramid was built by King Khufu. Khufu's mom was buried in Saqqara near Khufu's dad Sneferu. Unfortunately, tomb robbers got into Hetepheres' tomb and destroyed her mummy. However Khufu was able to recover her canopic jars and burial furniture. He then secretly re-entombed those items in Giza which were later discovered in the 20th century. As far as I know, Hetepheres is the only 5th dynasty monarch to have semi-intact organic material surviving to our era. It would be really cool if we could bring Hetepheres back as a clone. I'd be happy to adopt and raise her as a daughter. It's a sure bet that she'd develop into a beautiful and intelligent woman.
