Ammonia in the tank...
Hi All
Hey Phil. One thing with hydrogen is just how much of a bitch it is to store.
Crygogenic hydrogen has a pitiful mass density (70 kg/cubic metre), so why not store it as ammonia? With a density of ~ 682 kg/m^3 and a (3/17) hydrogen fraction the effective density is ~ 120 kg/m^3, but it's non-cryogenic and hydrogen can be reformed from it without producing fuel-cell poisoning CO or CO2.
Partial pressure if it's stored at 70 F is only ~ 8.88 bar which an LPG tank can supply easily.
Best thing is the major basic feedstock - N2 - comes straight out of the air. And you know if the tanks or delivery system are leaking straight away!
