Attitude is everything
For most of my early life, I had a primitive belief operating down at the level of my brain stem that mathematics was a form of torture inflicted upon me by my elders for no good reason (I was the victim of a crappy public school education from third rate teachers). It wasn't until my first aerospace job that a mentor took me under his wing and conviced me that mathematics was not only useful but one of the most beautiful things in the universe.
One of my life's big regrets was not having that epiphany earlier in my education (Why didn't I meet that mentor sooner?). It would have made my undergraduate experience a hundred times easier and I would have learned so much more.
Attitude is everything.
