There were some areas of mathematics and physics that seemed natural to me, others that seemed so unnatural and ugly that I never truly understood them.
In mathematics there were 2 or 3 areas that 'came naturally' to me- Linear algebra, and Tensor analysis I found fun. I LOVED differental equations, but the learning took work. I HATED most of calculus, and damn near got an F when I took Topology. Some concepts I never was able to get to fit naturally in my brain. I could learn how to use them, but never 'understand' them.
In Physics the areas that seemed 'natural' to me were actually the ones most removed from everyday life. I loved Electrodynamics, and Relativity... They just seemed 'right' and beautiful. I HATED thermodynamics and solid state physics. Lower level classical mechanics was fun and a lot of graduate classical mechanics was great too...
But I remember one night in a study session where we were trying to draw up the equations describing the motion and orientation of a coin rolling in a circle and slowing down due to friction... I remember vividly thinking 'Something so simple shouldnt be so ugly and complex!'

Depends on the type of math... same is true of physics
