When you referred to the subject of prayer, you gave your opinion, Mary Anne.
Your opinion on the subject is as valid as the next person's,
But...but...but...
But if one wants to get objective about the subject, one can argue that
your remark only shows that (1) you never tried prayer; (2) Any attempt at prayer on your part ended in failure to get what you asked for, or (3) you will not accept numerous testimonies of others on the subject [that's understandable].
Ironically, though, if there is an omniscient, ominpresent, omnipotent God, then assuming
such a being would tolerate a test under empirical conditions regarding a sample prayer.
one can supposedly carry out an empirical test to show the validity or invalidity
of prayer...[some claim to have performed such a test, successfully: whether they are "liars" or "sincere" or "sincerily deluded"; that's for you to decide]
I'm trying to stay as objective and unbiased as possible here.
Such a test one might assume might involve avoiding flippancy, irreverency, or asking for things that one doesn't really need or doesn't really want...and might involve a serious desire to find out if the exercise of prayer-petition has any validity or not.
Such an empirical test should not require a laboratory, money, expensive lab equipment,
nor a lengthy time period to carry it out nor an unreasonable waiting period for the result
or lack of result to manifest itself or not manifest itself.
I'm trying to be as objective and unbiased here as possible....
cheers.
