Or more correctly pseudoengineering?
EPA uses a 19-year-old fuel efficiency test that might not be accurate for such modern vehicles, according to experts. John Johnson, an automotive expert and co-author of a 2002 National Academy of Sciences report on fuel efficiency standards, says the EPA test has not been updated for hybrids....
The EPA test actually measures vehicle emissions and uses the data to extrapolate estimates for gas mileage. Because hybrids use a combination gasoline/electric engine, use computers to precisely control vehicle systems, and have very sophisticated catalytic converters, they have extremely low emissions, which could skew the EPA test.
Why do I believe that we're likely being misled by the EPA?
