When good women pick bad men I beleieve its because they mistake their man's anti-social pathology, violence or cruelty as an advantage that will make him more effective in the struggle with other men. Women like confident, strong men, but sometimes down at the fundamental level of the limbic system they mistake the symptoms for the disease.
Most women intellectually realize the "bad boy" is probably no damn good, but they still have a built-in attraction for him that sometimes wins. Meanwhile, men often make the same error, choosing the cutesy geisha-girl type only to find out that she is helpless and not much use as a life partner when the chips are down..
Me, I like tough broads. I know I can handle them, but I like to know they have my back if I take a hit. 8)
