How could anyone not support the Empire?

The Republic is a rotting, festering husk full of infighting and stagnation. The Empire offers renewal, and hope. Just look at the crumbling infrastructure of the old Republic versus the energetic vitality of the Empire. I know which one I'd prefer to live in.
