Think it through. Suppose we had just ignored the Japanese and the Germans. What would have happened?

We send them a nasty note about the attack on Pearl Harbor and do nothing else. A short time later, when Germany declares war on the USA, we send them another nasty note and ignore the whole thing.

A few months later, Japan seizes Hawaii and converts Pearl Harbor into a staging area for an attack on the West Coast. We ignore that too! Japan invades California. California falls. We ignore it.

Meanwhile, German submarines begin shelling USA's cities on the East Coast. We ignore that too! The Germans now can turn their effort on a USSR that has no outside support in terms of munitions from the USA. In a couple of years, the USSR collapses, and the Germans can turn toward the West again. Germany takes the British Isles, which had no USA support in term of weapons and food. Germany builds a blue water surface fleet and invades New York. We ignore it.

This would take a group of master ignorers!
