Good points. Between the two, Hitler and Stalin, I'd have prefered being in a Cold War with Stalin. You could make a case that on balance, Stalin was more evil to the people under his own control than was Hitler, but when it came to foreign policy, Hitler was a romantic, apocalyptic, risk-seeking nut job, whereas Stalin fundamentally cared about keeping himself and his regime alive and in power, however butal he was in doing so. The thought of a Nazi Germany with nukes and delivery systems, and no one else in Europe to balance them, is pretty worrying.
