A moral quandry

or is it?

We have all pretty much agreed that the outright torture of prisoners to gain information is wrong regardless of the circumstances. I will not belabor that point with the old questions of whether saving millions of lives would ever make torture a valid option. Let's just say it isn't and let the millions die rather than compromise our principles.

Now let's take the Koran issue. If disrespecting the book by flushing it down a toliet or worse can produce valuable intelligence for our side is it wrong to do such a thing. I am not talking about doing it just to piss them off. That is like pulling the wings off of a fly and it is without question wrong. I mean good and substantial information that will be of help for our side.

Suppose we say, no it is wrong under any circumstance. Okay, what about insulting their favorite soccer team or commenting that their clothes are tacky and out of style, maybe even saying their mother wears combat boots? I can't imagine why such tactics would be effective in getting information from someone but if it worked would it be wrong?
