Like a number of such projects, it sounds like they're working way too hard.
Smart fabrics? Electroactive polymers?
My first crack at spacesuits for heavy usage would be some form of a Vykukal-type hardsuit, around 8 psi, with some cheap, tough, thin, washable "coverall" zipped over it for dust and minor abrasions.
