Do you forget we started supplying them to protect them from Iran?
The US is always there first with a fistful of dollars to insure it's political goals world wide......not that there is anything wrong with this.
It only becomes problematic when it backfires (as in "blowback'), or when the locals change their feelings towards us (or us towards them...as evidenced by our turn around with Iraq and Saddam Hussein.)
What will be interresting is Saddam's trial. Our role is his weapons program MIGHT come out, but then, I'm sure he'll be kept doped up and the trial will be done behind closed doors and with "approved" snippets given to the news media. (Sorta like the Manuel Noreiga trial.)
And the CIA does keep secrets..... that you even suggest it doesn't, along with it's history of covering up and denying it's most dirty deeds proves you think it is some type of organization that lives in the "sunshine" and is transparent and accountable for all of it's deeds....
