re: Your point was on public opinion

"Your original post seemed to be making the claim that "environmentalism is dead" because the public doesn't trust environmental activists. My response is that public support for environmental causes is fairly high, and their overall view of environmentalists is fairly positive (compared to their views of business leaders and politicians, at least). Certainly it's not a lost cause politically, which seemed to be the point of your quote."

The title of article is "Is Environmentalism Dead?". The quote I gave from the article somewhat explains what the title means a concise way, other than quoting larger chunks or the entire article- which would a copyright infingement- I don't think there better paragraph which does this.
You seem to think that environmentalism means anything to do with environmental issues. Which to my mind is pretty good evidence that you either didn't understand the article or simply didn't read it.

"If the point you *really* want to make is that some environmentalists say crazy things, or they ignore tradeoffs like the benefits of banning DDT vs increase in malaria as a result, that's another topic entirely."

No, actually that is the topic.

"Whether or not people *should* listen to environmentalists, they do. Creationists may be crazy too, but also have substantial public support. I disagree with you on how wrong the evironmentalists are, but whether you are wrong and whether you are "dead" politically are two separate questions. "

Well, I never really heard anything much about creationism in school as far as I recall, other a brief history to do with evolution regarding the Monkey trial. In talking to other students, I believe I remember some them talking about how the earth is young, but most of my exposure to this idea was in some kind of historical context. Couple centuries ago, this was the accepted view. So I would say it's been my experience that Creationism is about supported as mind reading, the horoscope seems to me to have much more public support. But maybe my education was different than most, and it's been a while since I was in a public school. I have seen a fair amount about creationism on the internet, but doesn't seem to be as much as UFO stuff.
In elementary schools I went to, materialism was taught as the modern view- of course, that might date me a bit. What has your experience been?
