...fusion (if we ever make it commercially successful) is a lot cleaner than fission.
It's cleaner for a lot more reasons too (100 year half-life stuff is pretty small potatoes - we know hat to keep things safe on that time scale). Certainly fusion is not 100% clean as some folks have claimed.
