These are religious fanatics and as such only their own religion has the power to put them down. If they were Catholics doing these terrorist acts in the name of God, then they could be Ex-communicated by the Pope.
Britain has been the victim of bombing by Catholic terrorists: the IRA. Do you think they gave a rat's arse about the Pope???
There is no Muslim church, central authority, or religious doctrine, so the religion is doomed to be abused by religious cults.
At most, maybe 1/3 correct. There are conflicting religious doctrines -- Sunni and Shiite -- but not a lack of them. There are conflicting doctrines in Christianity and Judaism, too... and in case you haven't noticed, there's no central authority in either [The Pope is the central authority of only one of many Christian doctrines.] Christianity is also regularly abused by religious cults. Did you miss the thread about the anti-gay protesters at US military funerals? Are you old enough to remember Jonestown? Waco?
You are correct that the kind of people conveniently termed "Islamists" are fanatics. I doubt that their 'religion" is any more than a facade they use to justify their actions... very much like Jim Jones or David Koresh.
That doesn't excuse it -- in fact, it makes it worse -- their actions not only cause death, maiming and terror, but they also cause otherwise reasonable people to hate all Muslims over the acts of a tiny few. It's called polarization, and it's as much their purpose as are the deaths and destruction. If we give into it, they win part of their war against us.
