"Bush finally admits global warming is a real issue and that human produced CO2 is at least part of the problem. Will the ostriches around here follow along?"
Unlike other leaders Bush has spend billions of dollars in order to study this issue. Bush has done and is doing more than any other leader in the world. So, this idea of Bush is "finally" doing something about it, is foolish.
The real problem is the pseudo science. The Hockey Stick is very clear example of this bad science. And Kyoto agreement and most UN effort in regards to human affects on global warming belongs in the trash can.
In general the policalizing of the issue has done considerable damage to the goal of understanding and doing something to address this issue. Apparently, this is a hard concept for some people to grasp. They think there great value in making huge noise, they think it's ok to lie about this issue "because it's such a good cause". They don't care about the science, they are only interested in perverting it to fit their larger agenda. They say that waiting for scientific understanding of this issue is wasting "valuable time". They think it's far more important to terrorize the population into thinking that is some great immediate danger because of human activity related to CO2 emission.
To help these idiots understand how this is damaging, let's look at what was done on separate issue: Global poverty. We have spend in the order of a trillion dollars and decades of time on this issue. And it has been a huge waste of time and money. One reason it's been a failure is massive amounts of denial. And huge effort trying fit a square peg in a round hole. And any attempt to critize this has large political consequences from people who enjoy hunting witches.
It's massive stupidity. Which if you really want to honest, this whole effort has had the net affect of being factor in contributing to global poverty, mainly because it provides finanical support to thugs who cause this condition to continue. Now, you could give book length stories explaining the excuses, but it comes back to people refusing to look at the issue rationally. It could also be characterize as an act of insane people- doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.
Global warming which is described as something which is so urgent that we can't afford any time to understand the issue more fully is pure bunk.
Any attempt to make this seem like an emergency is wrong. It IS an issue that needs to be addressed in a rational manner. Long term plans to curb CO2 could be reasonable and there are many possiblies that be done in this area.
More history:
The political resistance in America to having more nuclear reactors has resulted in causing more CO2 to be produced, it's also resulted in more air pollution, and it's also made us more dependent on imported oil. Just the fear mongering of the dangers regarding anything to do with nuclear power has had enormous cost.
As rough guess, psendo science and it's fear mongering has costed tens of trillions of dollars. On a massive scale it has made the world poorer. Psendo science is a far far greater threat than any possiblity in the near term [within next 100 years] in regards to global warming- and certainly, in regards to any human caused global warming.
