In the Pdf that SDAI-Tech1 linked, it is shown the Japanese are providing the wings for the Boeing 787 ***AND*** much of the hardware (most?) for the Airbus A-380. One of these two aircraft will probably dominate commercial aviation. There is also a scenario where the 787 dominates for passenger transport while the A-380 dominates for cargo. The Japanese have both bases covered. They can't lose.

One of these days, we'll wake up and discover that most of the world's cars are made by Toyota and most of world's planes are made by Mitsubishi (America and Europe will be left standing around like idiots holding their private parts). It's hard not to admire the Japanese for shear cunning.
