re: Why spread such nonsense.

Small Atomic Demolition Munitions (SADM) serve a greater purpose than just making a hole in a city, although I am sure that it would be a great media event for all the bubble headed bleach blondes to report on. The SADM is too precious a weapon to simply detonate anywhere in a large city. A good target would be one of symbolism such as Washington DC where the heart of our government functions as well as many other federal agencies, or Hover dam – a symbol of our nations strength as well as providing power to Nevada, parts of Colorado, California, Arizona, and Utah. There are other better examples, but I do not wish to help the terrorist cause. It simply suffices to say that the SADM was developed in the early 1970s, and with the trend of technology over the past 30 years, how small do you think a SADM would be today? And for those of you that do not think a one Kiloton blast from a “suitcase” nuke is very destructive, I offer these facts, which were run form a computer model;

A "kiloton" is the power of one thousand tons of TNT. (TNT stands for tri-nitro-toluene, a high explosive commonly used in shells and bombs.)

The blast from a one-kiloton improvised weapon or a stolen battlefield weapon, with the same equivalent, during normal working hours in Manhattan would the following effect:
• more than 200,000 people would be killed, and 200,000 more would possibly be injured
• radioactive fallout could kill half the exposed population as far as three miles away (depending on the elevation of the bomb and winds) within a few weeks with several thousands more dieing of cancer in the years to come
• buildings and other structures over 11 city blocks would be demolished
• there would be serious disruption of Manhattan’s transportation, communications, utilities systems, and other infrastructure
• if placed underground (60 feet), the crater will be about 300 feet wide, and 128 feet deep
• if placed on the surface, the crater will be about 90 feet wide, and 21 feet deep
• near ground zero the radiation level will be about 5000 roentgens/hour at one hour after the blast, with levels of 1000 R/hr extending up to 1200 yards from the blast point. Hazardous levels of 100 R/hr will extended past 5000 yards in some areas

A 1 Kt yield, if placed underground (60 feet), will produce a crater about 300 feet wide, and 128 feet deep – if placed on the surface, the crater will be about 90 feet wide, and 21 feet deep.

These Weapons DO exist, so get your head out of the sand, and do your research to get the facts before you open your mouth!
