Well we both had some basic humanities, to fill out our majors

My daughter majored in art history and hit a lot more of that sort of thing than I did. My best friend majored in English at UCLA (he is a technical writer) and says that (while he had a few certifiable teachers) no one tried to recruit him.

Further, we never even heard of such a thing going on. I mean there were posters and petitions and rallys to free Tibet, or quibbles about whether the brown-skinned folks insisted to be called Chicano or Latino or whatever, or bring child care to campus, etc. So there was some activism. But there was nobody holding party meetings and no teacher ever had a nice thing to say about communism.

We went to school variously in Texas, New Mexico, and SoCal.

Had one subversively creative english lit professor who thought we should read non-fiction by CS Lewis, Owen Barfield, and CGJung and some others I can't remember - to the exclusion of any english lit at all. Had one bonkers western civ teacher whose crusade was to convince everyone that the medieval period was one of philosophical brilliance and technological advance as opposed to the over-rated renaissance (thought Hesse's Narcissus and Goldmund was proper reading for the class). Some real bad teachers who spent more time talking about their stock portfolios or hobbies than the topic of the class.
