I've noted that frequently Latinos hang together speaking only Spanish (their English poor because they don't use it enough) and Muslims hang together, retaining their languages, although the Muslims tend to learn English more readily, maybe because they learned it early in their native countries. I'm not sure these groups, and possibly others, are being assimilated. Why should these people want to speak English and adopt American habits and culture? They value their own and have little in common with their American hosts.

This isn't a criticism; it's just an observation from my experience. Perhaps others have a different experience, viewpoint. I'd be interested to read them.
