Attacking their personal failings, especially when those failings are sheer hypocrisy when compared to their words, is an even better way to discredit someone.
By extension, congressional decisions count too.
"Do as I say, not as I do" has become "Judge me for my words and subsequent contrition, not my misdeeds or my votes."
