Russia's concerns are mainly defensive.
Their armed forces have been training mainly against China, missiles aimed at China.
This "coalition", undoubtedly forced by Bush's foreign policy which has left much of the world looking for a balancing superpower to restrain "preemptive" wars (read "colonialization" of defenceless 3rd world oil-producing nations).
If "power tends to corrupt, absolute power tends to corrupt absolutely" you can see what power has done to those who were corrupt long before they came to power.
