How many active nuclear missiles are left?

The Cold War may be "officially" over, and the number of ready to go nuclear weapons reduced dramatically from the 50,000 both the US and USSR had as late as 1989, but how many are left at the moment? I believe several thousand on either side, to say nothing of what other places like North Korea may have (and as far as they are concerned, the Cold War will never be over so long as that Orwellian regime exists).

Russia and China may have their Muslim "problems", but the way they are set up, I can see them handling that group in rather decisive ways, far stronger than anything the West might do in kind. I am not saying I am agreeing with it, except for their extremists, just being realistic here.

Russia hasn't and isn't going to take their reduced role of world superpower lying down. So long as they have the means to wipe out civilization (which wouldn't take much in nuclear terms), and with China rising rapidly as the new rival superpower, I do not consider the Cold War to be really over.
