re: Time to pull up stakes?

I agree with you Fox. I had a good taste of it last year. The eye of hurricane Charlie missed us by about 20 miles, but tore up homes ALL ACROSS THE STATE as it moved through, as a category four.
I just lost a couple of 50 ft. trees on either side of me and part of my roof.

Then we got a direct hit from Frances for 3 days and then the eye of hurricane Jeanne came right over us at 120 mph. We were without power for a total of 14 days and the National Guard was in town protecting banks and Home Depot. There was a curfew at dusk. There were some looters on the outskirts of town, displaced fruit pickers who lived 6-8 in a mobile home.....no more trailer, no more groves, no more paychecks, no place to go to. And it's so friggin hot, you have to leave your windows open at night and keep a pistol by your bed.

I have "seen the light"; and KNOW it's time to go to higher ground before a super storm hits Florida that hard and displaces millions into my backyard. I have already SEEN the problems and am convinced if a category 4 or 5 seems imminent; I am headed north just to get out of harms way. Actually, we have only two main insterstates and one main highway going north out of Florida, so a total evacuation would be a nightmare. And I KNOW most Floridians would stay put.

As far as I am concerned, it's only a matter of time.
The one good thing is that property values inland have accelerated by 35% just this past year so my house will be worth more on the open market, maybe even more after this hurricane season, especially if a large coastal city gets hit. Families are coming inland to get away from the coasts and our community and surrounding areas offer that little bit of protection for them.
