Another tragedy is that resources that were being used for search and rescue are having to be redirected to stop the looters. Yesterday, the mayor ordered 1,500 cops who were searching for stranded people to go after looters instead. People will die because of that, but you can't perform search and rescue when gangs are shooting at you.


This is where federal assistance could be vital .. say the army, or the National Guard, etc. Maybe this is already being planned? I'm not up to date with the details. But you wouldn't need a huge task force to deal with the predators, as you point out they're an active and vicious minority, no more

Maybe Bush is planning this sort of assistance, if not he (or someone else) should consider it IMHO ..
