Some of the facts.

About 2/3 of New Orleans' population is black. It stands to reason on sheer numbers that anything going on down there at all is probably going to involve a black person.

New Orleans, like Washington D.C., is an enclave riding on top of a large, poor population of minorities, many of them seething. This, culturally, is not a good thing. New Orleans' crime rate before all this happened was about ten times the national average.

This is not so much about race as it is about a culture of government dependence, poverty, lack of family structure, a sense of entitlement, and other things that have been pressed on this population by political policies going back years.

When the shit hits the fan, the idea that it's the government's job to fix things NOW leads to immediate anger, frustration, and helplessness when things don't happen immediately. Combine this with the sense of entitlement that leads one to believe one has a RIGHT to take from the Oppressor, and you get a bad situation.

We can't overlook the media in this. It goes without saying that a citizen of New Orleans helping injured fellow citizens is not going to get the air play that a looter is. I know for a fact that there are a lot of heroic stories out there.

How much of things like this did you see on TV coverage?
