The Left has spent decades whitewashing the results of the glorious collectivist philosophy they worshipped back in the early half of the 20th century.
All I know is that every nation that has called itself "Marxist" has ended up a totalitarian hellhole, with countries like China and Vietnam finally prospering only to the extent that they abandoned some of Marxism and moved to some half-assed fascist arrangement of limited private companies and a totalitarian state controlling them and everything else.
This history alone should be enough for a nation's people to avoid anyone calling themselves "Marxist," but the promise of looting the rich is apparently a tempting one.
Venezuela is not going down the tubes anytime soon. Even a dictatorship can do pretty well financially when sitting on loads of oil wealth. Look at some of the Middle Eastern nations.
Meanwhile, the former "Sandalnistas" have somebody to worship again.
