Me too

Don't feel bad, man. Starting with Gemini, I stayed home from school and recorded the audio from the TV on my parent's huge reel-to-reel tape deck. Then for Apollo 11 I carefully wrote down the instructions they broadcast on how to snap still pictures from a TV screen, and I used my Dad's 35 mm to take pictures during the moonwalk.

People just seem to have this need to possess some token of their own of a momentous event, even knowing that the souvenir industry will swing into action to manufacture instant memories. Tourists snap crappy pictures of Yosemite even though they can buy Ansel Adams' work in the gift shop, because they snapped the picture, thus proving that they were actually there.

I still have the pictures I snapped during Apollo 11. The photolab envelope says "Bobby Shepherd", scrapbook proof that I Was There in AD 1969 when men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the Moon.
