The LSAM was essentially concieved as a test for a Mars surface lander. That's why it has the methane engines.
It's USEFUL cargo capacity is nil, because its cargo has to be small, and moved by men. There is no enclosed work vehicle in the architecture.
The HLLV is not necessary for manned Moon flight. It is little more than a heavily federally subsidized effort to find a civilian use for military solid grain production efforts, with the side "benefit" of helping to bust the AIM by subsidizing launchers not built by its members. The HLLV also provides 50,000 red state white collar jobs, jobs funded in large part by blue states. The architecture is a north to south transfer of wealth.
The HLLV's solids MAY have devastating effects on the ozone layer and as a result on climate.
If NASA does not check for this, and check it our now, we could end up as the responsible party in the mother of all law suits. The clean up bill for New Orleans could end up looking like peanuts in comparison.
60% of the nation is opposed to paying for manned Mars flight, and this will get worse as more data comes in from Mars.
What the nation would pay for is CAPS, if they were given a choice, and that needs medium lift launchers, fuel transfer, and landing frames for cargo delivery. China will probably use this route to build CAPS around 2023 - 2033.
CAPS could be done using the HLLV, but discussion of mitigation is still being suppressed by NASA management. Thiokiol still relies on the manned Mars flight enthusiasts for its future, as does NASA.
The Brown Ammendment awaits final passage. It will be interesting to watch for those trying to kill it.
Because of its use of lasers, you may be sure that the Chinese intelligence services have translated Langley's publicly available CAPS studies into Chinese, and have begun to circulate them, along with papers on the current Russian lunar architecture.
The first Emperor of China was reported killed by impact, and his tomb will be excavated shortly.
Its all really not my own personal problem.
Have a nice day.
