Your dice-roll comment is something Joe Public needs to understand - the powers that be are playing craps with their lives. A Canary island underwater landslide could cause a bigger tsunami than a NEO-impact, but EP doesn't have some scheme to fix it, so his monopia is only slightly better.
EP has a point but his paranoia gets a bit much.
Asteroid protection is a worthwhile cause, though I am unconvinced that lasers will have any role in our armamentarium.
The ozone thing is bogus - CFCs have caused and continue to cause more damage than SRBs.
