HST may be outdated in certain aspects, but...
...considering how many professional astronomers have to constantly jockey for telescope time at observatories around the globe, I am sure many of them would still find the old HST quite useful for their purposes. That alone would be reason enough to keep it going for a long while. One more functioning telescope exploring the Cosmos does not hurt.
