There's another point that shouldn't be left out.

If we stop fighting this war, on many different fronts including heavy homeland security, unlike the Viet Cong, the bad guys are going to come here after us.
This operation has actually stopped terror attacks. Keep that in mind.
This is just one more political attack. As another example, most of those griping about the Patriot Act in Washington voted for it eagerly when they thought it would help them get elected.
