We might escape the heat death of the universe if we are inside an event horizon when it forms. Otherwise we are doomed to fall into the event horizon from outside, to be 'recycled' along with all the other burned out matter and energy in the universe. If we are inside when it forms, it will create a flat space for use to survive in. Being inside still requires an extraordinary means of survival, but not as severe.
Of course I'm preferentially selecting my own theory of the universe because I think it makes more sense than all the others. You are free to choose your own.
