There's nothing personal about True Believers.
So me a neocon who served in the military, and I'll show you one who dodged combat by going AWOL.
Over time we've all learned:
Tom has called anyone who disagrees with him a traitor, giving aid and comfort to the enemy, etc. And he truly believes it. Tom is jingoistic in the extreme, with an adolescent view of the world which hasn't changed since the 6th grade. Conservative propaganda substitutes for thinking.
He does not like kids to learn about Islam, communism or socialism, believing that learning about or teaching is proseltyzing.
And he's consistent. He does not have the slightest interest in learning the difference between an economic system and a political system, and is tragically ignorant in that area.
Tom worships greed and he does not believe preventative medical care for American citizens is as important as spending money to kill innocent foreigners. He doesn't care that Saudis attacked WTC and Bush invaded Afghanistan and Iraq. Go figure.
Tom can excuse any atrocity commited by a conservative regime, and regards self-defence by others as a war crime.
Can be friendly and charming. Then one expects to find a thinking human being. And it's our expectations which are the problem.
To take him personally is to take pit bulls personally. Actually, a pit bull with it's brains beat out, as Tom simply cannot think for himself.
And it's folly to expect it.
Otherwise he's a nice guy. Has more courage than some. Most.
