To be honest, I don’t like this deal. Part of it may be due to not trusting Arabs, and this is a predadice I think most American feel. Part of is that I don’t like all this foreign ownership on American soil, be it Arab or any other.
So let me put aside my emotions and look at this logically.
What I would like to see is all the cards put on the table for the public to see. If there turns out to be no security threat of Dubai Ports World running these ports, then the 6.8 billion dollar deal could help the economy. If this is true, we should put aside our Arab prejudice and treat it like any other foreign business deal.
If there is any chance Dubai Ports World can not be trusted with these ports, then 6.8 billion, and all the jobs lost, are not worth it IMO. If this turns out to be the case, and President Bush still backs it with no good reason, then he will loose my support.
I know President Bush never wants to see another 9/11, so I don’t think he would put the security of the country at risk for money, but if he does, he will no longer have my support.
In the meantime, there is not enough info to go on. I will notlet Arab prejudice cloud my judgment . Not all Arabs are bad.
There is time. Surprisingly Dubai Ports World has given us time to think and look this over, so lets do. My gut tells me we can trust this company, but we must be sure.
