We certainly can't afford to shut down the military
But we sure need to use it much more wisely than George Bush has done.
The invasion of Afganistan, the toppling of the Taliban, and the fight against Al Queda had the firm support of America's allies practically everywhere in the world. And the fight against Islamic terrorism must continue, as the dire threat still exists, and in fact grows more menacing. However, the misguided and largely unilateral adventure against Saddam Hussein has done so much to sap that support and damage America's image in the world. This should be abundantly clear by now.
