Suppose a new Iraqi vote was held, and Saddam's name was placed on the ballot. And suppose Saddam won. Would you consider this a triumph of democracy? As a precedent Marion Berry won election after his prison sentence was over.
And, when he took office Saddam decreed none of his nations oil could go to the United States. Would you consider this as part of the right of self determination nation states are said to possess as signatories to the Rights of Man declaration of the United Nations?
And suppose Iran, Iraq, Venezuela, Russia, and Canada formed an oil producers union. Would they have enough influence to force OPEC cooperation and decide favored nation status on oil purchases would be China. And that all payment for oil would be based on the Euro.
What would be the appropriate US response? Would any military action be possible with limited oil, money, and few friends on the international front.
You see, even a factitious remark can trigger responses that question your actual values.
