re: as a hypothetical situation.................

Inasmuch as your values are not in question, my what ifs can be addressed. What does it mean to get Iraq to stand alone? My hypotheticals now come in play.

Is the being (sein und dasein) of Iraq something that requires US approval and fits the US paradigm?

Would it be acceptable to have an Ayatollah assume leadership?

What will the US do in the future if Iraqi policies are formed that conflict with American government or business interests?

How much "freedom" do we allow other nations to oppose us? We don't seem to have much concern about the Japanese destroying Ford and GM. And we didn't object to Germany devouring Chrysler? Come to think about it, weren't these the nations we defeated in WWII?

Is it just obvious opposition that the US won't tolerate? Is it acceptable if the enemy buys but doesn't bomb? this makes the statement that money is more effective than bullets and bombs. Perhaps we should try this approach on our enemies?
