NASA should have started with a reusble winged vehicle as they
had originally planned and worked up from there. At least we might
have had a space program with a real infrastructure starting back
in the 1960s.

If the USA really wanted to blow the Soviets out of the water on a
global prestige scale, having a winged spacecraft as opposed to
a small cramped one-shot cannon ball would have done a lot.
