Not one piece of evidence connects those thousands of Iraqi residents with the current situation, or even the war in general.
It is a known fact that there was no flood of refugees into Jordan at the beginning of the war.
Now, take this story, which puts 400,000 Iraqis in Jordan at the start of the war.
Here's another story from 1998.
The truth of the matter is that almost all the Iraqis in other countries were driven there by Saddam's abuses and previous violence, and that little fact definitely does NOT fit the agenda.
This "news story" used standard techniques of assembling random and unrelated statistics, mixed nicely with selected anecdotes, in hopes that the average reader wouldn't actually think about it, and come away with the image the writer wanted: of thousands of Iraqis driven out of the country by the current inter-sect violence.
The one solid number given a specific time frame, the registered refugees in Egypt, showed 358 Iraqis in 2004, and 828 from early 2005 until March of 2006.
The true story--Iraqis moving from one area in Iraq to another in large numbers--would have been interesting on its own. Why add a lie?
