One of my favorite sayings is that most of the Big Questions have simple answers. Where things get complicated is that the simple answers aren't the ones that people want to hear.
Example: "eat less and exercise more."
When you have a basement full of water, step one is to find the leak and stop it. Everything else comes later.
The government, both parties, is mightily resistant to putting border control ahead of the rest of "comprehensive reform," but it's the obvious first step.
The border fence near San Diego, and Israel's new border wall, both cost a bit under $2 million per mile. A 2000-mile fence would cost (very roughly) about $4 billion, one-time cost.
Not chicken feed, but again, compare it to the cost of the illegals. Per year. For just California.
In reality, it would be some combination of walls, fences, sensors, and a LOT more border patrol personnel.
I suspect that the elections in Mexico this summer are having a bigger impact on this issue than it appears. Last thing we need is some Chavez clone being elected.
