I'm about 6-7 years older than you but I did have a music period. I even sang with a R&B group as a teen. I still like a bit of this and that mainly 50s and 80s rock, some blues and folk music but I have pretty much decided that musically speaking, we attained FTL in the 17th century and while it may not be down hill from there it is more or less piddling with the art. Music never influenced me in the way that you describe. Any pubescent ephiphanies that I might have had (don't recall any) probably had more to do with Marlon Brando, James Dean and Amboy Dukes. (Bad boys get more satisfaction)
I never cared for Jagger until the 80s.
As for heritage, I only agree with you to the extent that one is not better than the other but it is a legitimate source of pride for anyone. I dabble in genealogy and I know my haplogroup and all my paternal forebears back to 1610. Nobody there worth bragging on but it is neat to know that once upon a time I had Vikings and Border Reivers in my heritage. It is not a big deal but knowing is better than not knowing.
Good enjoyable commentary.
