However I do disagree on your statement that their intent is to close down the company. That simply defies logic. Closing down a business that contributes to the economy, gives people jobs, and provides products we all need just doesn't make sense for anyone regardless of their political persuasion.
Do some research on the status of the logging industry in the American Northwest, or the mining industry in America in general. Oil exploration and refining we've already discussed.
Do we need to go into the number of factories, roads, housing developments, airports, office buildings, power plants, and other industries that were never built due to environmental objections? Almost everybody can probably think of an example near where they live.
Whatever concerns are high on their list, jobs and economic growth aren't anywhere near the top.
I've spent a lot of time looking into these groups and their motivations, and I readily admit that this probably bends me out of shape a bit for discourse with more reasonable people, kind of like someone who's been on the front lines might react unreasonably to loud noises.
In the case of ozone, maybe they weren't specifically trying to close down the chemical companies, but they wouldn't have shed any tears if they'd gone bankrupt fighting them, much as other companies have done fighting environmental and health lawsuits.
