re: Wanting to close down a company

Whatever concerns are high on their list, jobs and economic growth aren't anywhere near the top.

I wonder why they should be? Isn't it a principle of both freemarket economics and democracy that if everybody attends to their own business and advocates their own agenda, the optimum solution for society as a whole will arise from the mix?

In your follow-on you wrote

It's about balance. Right now, I think the balance is tilted too far against economics, but I suppose that's a matter of opinion.

The balance is only going to come from different parties pursuing conflicting agendas. Balance won't come from inside the environmental movement any more than it will come from inside business. It's not the job of either party to pursue balance. It's just as valid to accuse business of tunnel vision as environmentalists, and they're neither necessarily wrong to be pursuing their own agendas.

Your beef, Tom, isn't with environmentalists. It's with our society for democratically making decisions with which you disagree. As you said, it's a matter of opinion.
