Re: The Metaphysics of Contemporary Theft

"Tom, that is self-serving bullshit and you know it. Do you mean to tell me that if we eliminated all public assistance and the safety net the world would once again revert to some idyllic suburban Mayberry RFD? There never was such a time."

No, and you know damn well this isn't what the article meant. And as usual, you avoided the most important part of my post. The last paragraph was critical, and was meant to get people to ask questions.

If you actually looked, you would find out that there's not much correlation between the economy and crime rates. You should really check your premises before you write dozens of paragraphs. It would save you a lot of time.

Someone passing by a driveway and deciding to take a saw is not the act of a professional criminal. It is the act of someone who has been taught all his life that there's really no such thing as "other people's stuff." That private property is an obsolete concept. That people who have things owe them to people who don't. You don't make criminals by giving someone medical care. You make them by telling them they have a right to force others to provide their needs, and that any resistance is a sign of moral degradation on the part of the person forced to provide them. Those rich bastards don't deserve that wealth. That money is rightfully the People's (i.e. mine).

The culture of the American left has made looting a virtue. Listen to you and Eri talking about taking mansions and rich people's money away and using it for good deeds. That's the poison, right there. And you're soaking in it.
