"If you are smart you are leftist, if you are an idiot you're right."
Unfortunately, that only pans out so far. That's true for the huge number of leftists who've just graduated from base bigotry, race hatred, beatings and reruns of Hee Haw.
The newly enlightened left leaners are sure that their enlightenment, concern for the poor and homeless, racial tolerance, multicultural acceptance, views on women's rights, sexual emancipation and unwillingness to enjoy the rat race are proof of their homosuperian;™ status.
While that may lift them above the rural lower common denominator, who sin Monday through Saturday and then pray for forgiveness on Sunday, and those others who live in the cities for whom violence and criminal acts are their forms of communication and self-expression, it is only the beginning of moral enlightenment and in seeing the proper relationship for both government and business in a healthy society.
The next step pulls them back from this leftist cliff of condemnation, and its own new form of intolerance and demands, and sets them forth realizing utopian visions and endless rhetoric do not in practice provide more equality or better circumstances for everyone. They realize that certain discrimination is healthy and necessary and that capitalism, properly monitored, is the best possible system for providing better living conditions and education for all.
This level is achieved only by very few. Public & private education only reaches the first hurdle and leaves them swimmming in the leftist Sea of Fallacies;™ pointing their fingers and looking down their noses at others, failing to see they still haven't got a proper perspective on the best interests of society, all while feeling they are at the Zenith of personal development.
One needs only look at the left's disdain here for Tom's remarks as if they are humoring some small child with a fixation. In this sense the more refined left here sees 'harmless' and 'misguided' folks like Tom in much the same manner as they see a handicapped person or a starving child in Ethiopia - someone to be 'healed' of their misconceptions and tolerated for their less 'civilized' belief system.
No education, isn't the answer, but merely separates the wheat from the chaff at the first encounter with the thresher. As realworld and self education continues - the political views morph yet again - back towards the right.
Flame » in reply to My guess would have been education to be a stronger predictor than income.
That's the left's take on it. ;-)
