Hate can be an appropriate response to evil.

Crime is an expression of evil.

ER accuses Ronald Reagan of committing crimes against the United States. Unfortunately, while the accusation has legs, it was never pursued, so it will remain forever an accusation, at least until some historian 200 years ago gets her hands on the documents to prove it.
