We're no different.
We may have reason and culture and history to modify and elaborate the process, but we're still essentially nothing but the reproductive paraphernalia of the Mad Molecule.
All living things are created, by God, Evolution or whatever, for just one purpose, to make as many copies of themselves as possible. For human men and women, this manifests itself in different ways because of one and only one fact: A man can reproduce almost every day of most of his adult life, while a woman can reproduce only about once a year for a rather limited amount of of her alloted time. A a result, the reproductive strategies the two sexes are programmed with differ considerably.
Males seek out young, healthy (i.e., attractive) females, and as many as possible. Females seek out one powerful, influential member of the tribe and attempt to bond with him as completely as possible in order to maximize the protection, hence survival, of her offspring.
Human sexual and reproductive behavior is very complex and is not strictly determined by our biological programming, just as our feeding behavior is not strictly determined by our nutritional needs. There is still plenty of room for variation, complication, companionship, partnership, and, of course, love. But at the very center of this wonderful and complex affair lies the biological imperative.
