To stop price gouging.
Taxes on windfall profits will just get eaten up in bureaucracy, and used for more debacles like FEMA and Homeland Security.

Down here during hurricanes, you can't get caught price gouging on ice, gas or water or you get arrested.

But who's going to arrest the big wigs at Exxon Mobil?
